The Operations Director is a critical leadership role responsible for creating an environment where all teams and positions within the Innovation Center can succeed and thrive. This role involves overseeing the Center's daily operations, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.

As this is currently a volunteer role, the Operations Director will also play a key part in securing funding for the Innovation Center. This includes hiring and coordinating with a Finance Team Leader to access, manage, and distribute funding effectively.

This role will transition to a paid position once sufficient funding is obtained.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operational Leadership:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Innovation Center, ensuring all teams and sub-programs function effectively.
  • Create and maintain an environment that supports innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Act as a liaison between team leaders, missions, and the Center's leadership.
• Strategic Planning and Execution:
  • Align the Center's operations with its vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  • Regularly review and update operational processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and other leaders to set measurable goals and objectives.
• Team Building and Coordination:
  • Hire, onboard, direct, and report to the Executive Director about the activities of the following individual roles: Mission Director, Project Management Team Leader, Safety and Mission Assurance Team Leader, Science and Technology Team Leader, Engineering Team Leader, Public Communications Team Leader, Human Resources Team Leader, Legal Team Leader, Procurement and Contracts Team Leader, and Finance Team Leader
  • Support team leaders in achieving their objectives and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Invest in employee and volunteer development to build a high-performing team.
• Funding and Resource Management:
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and sponsorships.
  • Develop innovative funding strategies such as revenue sharing, licensing, and investment from the space industry.
  • Work with the Finance Team Leader to manage and allocate resources effectively.
• Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Communicate the Center's vision, progress, and successes to stakeholders, including investors, partners, and the public.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders to secure funding and resources.
• Governance and Accountability:
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress and success.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in operations management, strategic planning, or a related leadership role.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or financial management is highly desirable.
• Passion for space exploration, innovation, and empowering others.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a remote, volunteer-based environment.

Note: This is a volunteer role until sufficient funding is obtained. Securing funding is a key responsibility of the Operations Director.
